Why should a state already exceeds the expected GER of a given policy follow an unproved policy. Their policy seems to working well. And why would you learn extra language its just a burden and if you dont use it in daily basis boof its gone. That policy is just stupid

The answer is a big nothing.

As I could witness people out there getting anxiety in choosing schools and expanding its impact to their kids, the dravidian model of education ensures happy and enjoyable learning. The history of resistance by Tamil people against the caste based, hereditary jobs, this policy very boldly bringing back the very same culture we protested long ago.

Currently I’m studying in a central institute were there are people from different states. Most of them literally don’t know their regional language. I felt someday this is gonna happen to us. 
Though they know english they want to speak in Hindi.
I went to Hyderabad once last year. Rapido drivers are Hindi speakers.Some grocery shop are Hindi speakers. We can survive without Telugu. Someday same will happen in our place.

" So I saw a person in my neighborhood he is from Gujarat. I'm from Tamilnadu. This is happening in Bangalore. When we both started speaking I noticed he doesn't speak or understand English at all and he started to speak in Hindi to me, I said I dunno Hindi (I know but can't speak fluently). I was later talking to a person in my apartment saying it's very hard to speak &amp; they dunno English so communicating with him was hard!. 

The immediate response from that person was " Why don't u know Hindi? I said i dunno that much Hindi and it's important to talk in English as it's important to have this conversation properly blah blah(in English) And I'm from Tamilnadu like that. Then that 3rd person responding like " so you want him to learn Tamil but you won't learn Hindi" 
I was flabbergasted and in loss of words. I said him it's important to have English as a communicative language between me and him because we are talking important stuff!.  And never in my sentence i said he has to learn tamil. But they don't understand this small very basic difference itself. I was wondering how did they get job in IT field with this English and 0 communication skills. 

They really don't understand the difference and importance and they think we should learn Hindi in order to cajol them. I don't follow politics nor I live in Tamilnadu now. But I understand why Tamil politicians and people are vehemently opposing this mentality. They all collectively think we all should talk in Hindi. Funny thing is both of this said person doesn't know a single word in Kannada as well. Meanwhile being a tamilian I learned so many sentences for my survival.!

I was under the impression the 3rd language can be any of the non-native Indian language, but it’s prescribed and restrictive. 

Now I’m low-key proud that only TN stands against this imposition. 

That said, I would still accept 3 language policy if the state or students can decide for themselves what it will be. The only mandate being 3 languages and not restricted to prescribed ones only. Or for that matter, I’m even in for making a mandatory language from any other continent - Europe, Afrikaans or Russian.

Pondy students have it best - Tamil, English and French.

Perhaps we should accept NEP and take Malayalam as the 3rd language.

At least it's useful to understand well made Mollywood films 😁.

I dont feel 3 languages policy  has any utility for us Tamil people. If at all the govt at the center arm twists TN into accepting NEP, Tamilnadu should strongly opt for a foreign language.  German, even though it is comparitively difficult, should be the first choice (shrinking population, good economy) . French should be the second choice. Other south Indian languages like Kannada, Telugu and Malayalam can be our third choice.

Nobody is forcing Hindi or Sanskrit but everyone is choosing the two for very simple reason- the government pushes the languages while promoting no other. You don't get many Malayalam teachers in north but will easily get Hindi teachers in South. Ideally, government should attempt to promote all Indian languages everywhere or do away with 3-language Policy if it is a logistical nightmare. One way out for TN would be to train and hire Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada and Marathi teachers en masse and promote them or promote local tribal tongues like Irula.

PLEASE don’t hate and educate me if I am wrong: I am a Tamil Canadian so I’m trying to understand everything.

What’s wrong with learning Hindi (or Korean, or French or language XYZ) as the third language? My assumption is that Tamil and English will be the first two with Hindi being the third? Here are the three reasons I have listed below, please do educate me if I am misinformed-

1.	⁠I don’t understand the concept of how learning one language will destroy or make us forget the other one? I speak a total of four languages  (Tamil, English, French, Spanish) and that doesn’t make me forget Tamil? I love learning languages and plan on learning Punjabi next! But in no way has learning these languages made me forget Tamil.
2.	⁠Learning another language will always give us more opportunity. For example, even though I live in canada I live in a Punjabi dominated area. so I don’t HAVE to learn Punjabi, but if I do; I see my job opportunities in this city go up. Now if I moved to a Tamil dense area I’m sure Tamil will be a bigger advantage there. All I’m saying is, if I learn both languages then I have an advantage at both places-which is a good thing for me. So why can’t we as a state learn another language and increase our rates of success? Ofcourse we can find success with Tamil only, but learning a language increases our scope (this applies to English, mandarin and almost all languages)
3.	⁠I find  it hypocritical that we are OK to adopt a colonizer language such as English (I don’t need to take a history lesson on how much the British ruined us, and how much they looked down upon us) but not a language from our own country? In fact use of English has a bigger impact on erasure of native languages all of the world-way more than Hindi does…so we need to me more scared of English taking over (which it is in major cities) than Hindi.

Again I’m not from TN so plz correct me if I’m wrong, but almost all Canadians that I’ve explained this issue to have no idea why this is happening only in this state. At the end of the day I feel like all southern states will gain an advantage on the national stage by learning Hindi and we will be left behind!

They are making all admissions centralised with NEET, IIT, CUET which focuses on CBSE syllabus and then when people are choosing that they are forcing for Hindi second language. If this is not imposition, the what is. Days are not far when all centralised exams will be in Hindi only

I think we should adapt NEP learn Hindi in our schools till 10th. But the state govt should implement a mandatory Tamil Entrance exam and a 100-200 word Tamil Essay for all Universities (Private and Govt) within the jurisdiction of Tamil Nadu. All degrees (Associate, bachelors, Masters, Mphil, PhD and any tertiary education) shall have a mandatory Tamil exam with a cut off score to get admission.

Since NEP is a "Good Thing" according to union govt, ppl coming from other states for TN unis shouldnt have a problem learning Tamil if we learn their language.
